THE UEFA Champions League Trophy held aloft by triumphant Liverpool FC in 2005 appeared in Letchworth GC at the weekend at an event promoting unity through sports.

The cup was in the town as part of a special partnership between Khalsa FC, who promote diversity in the game at a grass roots level, and the Merseyside team which aims to steer youngsters away from crime and encourage Asian women to take up football.

Liverpool FC’s coaches accompanied the cup and were quizzed by those who attended.

Bal Singh, the KFA’s founder, said: “The Liverpool Coaches day was an excellent way to celebrate Asian women’s participation in organising and leading high profile sports events not only in Hertfordshire but UK.

“It is important KFA continue to inspire youngsters in the community and with more Champions League projects planned ahead for 2011 the Khalsa Football Academy will continue to inspire youngsters in Letchworth and North Herts.”
