RAP artist Liquid has poured, rather than dripped, onto the music scene.

Daryl Goldson (Liquid), from Stevenage, has come a long way in just a year.

The 20-year-old, from Durham Road, has sold over 20,000 copies of his debut EP Release and entered the itunes downloads chart with his Midnight Performance Mix CD.

He is currently ranked in the UK MySpace top ten as one of the most listened-to artists in three different genres - rap, hip hop and soul. Being part of the biggest online music community he has also achieved around 100,000 profile views and 350,000 plays.

Competition in the music scene is great. He said: "There are so many artists out there. It's like we're in the golden age - even if the music's really good it still doesn't mean it'll get noticed."

But he seems to be doing a good job of making people pay attention. His debut music video Get Down hit the TV Channel U play list in 2006 with 1678 UK votes in three months. In the same year he signed a promotional deal with Excellence Records and performed at the MOBO Unsigned Awards and top venues including Café de Paris, Funky Buddha and Embassy.

Liquid is managed by the MBA Association in Stevenage which runs a number of youth projects as well. He is the project manager for one of these, Mentoring through Music, conducting workshops against substance misuse.

He also works in Soho, London, as an event PR promoting his independent record label Lime Light and UK Street Team. He also manages to find time to work as a doorman in Harlow.

Liquid, a former Hitchin Boys' School pupil, is actually on his gap year from Loughborough University studying sports and leisure management. He said: "I'm supposed to go back, but I'll see how it goes."

When asked what his plans for the future are, he joked: "World domination!"

And he added: "There's too many. The new CD, that's the main plan, I want to make a music video as well.

"It's a matter of pushing it forward. I haven't got any long-term plans just short-term goals. All of the main stuff has happened within a year."

Liquid's new CD Shattered Dreamz will be released tomorrow (Friday). Fans will be able to download it for free from www.myspace.com/liquiddownloads or visit
