COME into the den - we won't bite.

That's the invitation to people interested in helping their community in Hitchin and the surrounding villages.

Hitchin Lions Club is holding a Meet the Lions evening next Tuesday (October 10) in St Michael's Community Centre, St Michael's Road, Hitchin, starting at 8pm.

It's a chance to have a chat and find out what club members do, and how they make sure that helping others less fortunate is enjoyable.

Hitchin Lions was founded in 1969 and has been helping local people in practical ways since then.

It has members from all walks of life, equal numbers of men and women, and wants to increase its membership to be able to do more for the community.

Club president Lesley Davies said: "Many people have heard of us but may not know what we do. We hope they'll come along to find out more."

The club can be contacted on 0845 8339816, via email hitchinlions@googlemail.com or more information can be seen on the website hitchinlions.org.uk.
