A 23-year-old Hitchin man accused of falsely imprisoning a woman in Baldock is to stand trial next year after denying the charge today.

Levi Simms, of Highover Way, pleaded not guilty to detaining the woman against her will when he appeared in custody at St Albans Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman between July 27 and 28 this year, and to before this time repeatedly contacting her by telephone and in person at her home in breach of a restraining order imposed last October.

Judge Graham Arran remanded Simms in custody ahead of a trial set to start on January 17 next year. The trial is expected to last four days.
