A 14-year-old girl from Letchworth has been arrested and charged for the second time in the space of a week in connection with a number of fires in the town.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged in connection with three arsons that happened in Letchworth on January 28.

Yesterday she was arrested again in connection with a further five offences which happened over the weekend and at the turn of the year.

The girl appeared in youth court on Thursday where she pleaded guilty to the first three offences and was released on conditional bail pending further investigations.

Today, she appeared at Hatfield Remand Court where she was charged with arson for setting fire to a bin in Central Approach on January 1 and was remanded in custody.

She is next due to appear in court on Thursday.
