Letchworth’s Garden Square Shopping Centre celebrated its 40th birthday in style on Saturday with a Willy Wonka themed party for all the family.
The bash, based on the eccentric Charlie and the Chocolate Factory character, saw more than 600 kids turn out for a glimpse of the Oompa Loompas and the Giant Candy Canes.
On hand to help out was the centre’s charity of the year, Garden House Hospice, with staff manning a lemonade fizzing station and chocolate fountain stall for those with a sweet tooth.
Jack Philbin, Garden Square’s Centre Manager, said: “Garden Square has seen many changes over its 40-year history and it was great to see so many people coming to the square to help us celebrate with our Willy Wonka themed birthday party.
“It was a day filled with treats, fun and celebration. Thanks to everyone who came along and we’d also like to thank all our loyal shoppers for their 40 years of custom and friendship.”
