A Sainsbury’s employee from Letchworth has admitted stealing five bottles of vodka, five of whiskey and £500 in cash from the store, two days before Christmas.

Ricky Kurmi, of Upper Maylins, has been ordered by magistrates to pay all the money back, and also compensate the supermarket chain for the Belvedere vodka and Jack Daniel’s whiskey – which the court heard was worth a total of £340.

Passing sentence on the 23-year-old at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court, chairman of the bench Brian Deal also imposed a year-long community order.

Kurmi must pay £85 in costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Sainsbury’s has yet to respond to a request for comment.
