A Letchworth supermarket stalwart who has worked at Morrisons in Broadway ever since the store first opened its doors 17 years ago is finally retiring today.

Mary Gates, 65, pictured above between co-workers Anita Amey and Connor Pattison, will celebrate with friends afterwards at the Platform pub.

Deputy store manager Matt Middleton told the Comet: “She’s been a real credit to the store, a much loved character to her colleagues and the town. She’s an absolute diamond and will be sorely missed. We wish her all the best for her retirement.”
