Dementia support groups in Letchworth, Baldock and Hitchin are to benefit from a cool £650 raised by a mod music event.
Gary Grindal, who organised Letchworth March of the Mods alongside Leon Hewitt, presented the donation cheque to Kingfisher Club staff and volunteers – who help both those living with dementia and their carers.
The show, one of a series of March of the Mods events held across the country during March, also brought in £650 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Gary said the Letchworth march was a massive success, as a sold-out crowd at the Four Emblems Club in Station Road enjoyed ’60s-themed music from the Mynd Set, the Sonic Jewels, the RSGs and the Zebras, as well as DJs Ali and Ab – who all performed free of charge.
Raffles held on the night and during May raised additional funds, bringing the total raised up to £1,300.
And Gary said that he and Leon hoped to bring the mods marching back to Letchworth next year.
Gary said: “It was a truly remarkable event and both myself and Leon were delighted that so many turned up to support not only these important charities but also to support live music in the town.

“It was a magnificent effort by all involved. A big thank you must go to the Four Emblems Club and the bar staff who were rushed off their feet all night.
“Of course to raise £1,300 is fantastic, and I thank all those that attended the event or bought raffle tickets.
“I have been asked many times since whether we will hold the event again in 2018 and I very much hope that we will, to help raise funds for another local good cause.”
The Kingfisher Club is run by Howard Cottage Housing Association, and meets in Letchworth on Mondays, Hitchin on Tuesdays and Baldock on Wednesdays.
