Letchworth man arrested after Chelsea monkey gesture

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated offence following a football game between Chelsea and Manchester United.

Photographs taken during Wednesday’s Capital One Cup fourth-round tie at Stamford Bridge appeared to show a Chelsea fan making a monkey gesture near to black United striker Danny Welbeck.

A 28-year-old man from Letchworth GC was arrested yesterday (Monday) in connection with the incident after attending a west London police station by appointment.

The Met Police said the man had been bailed to return to the police station in late November.

Chelsea FC has also launched its own investigation into the incident.
