Members of North Herts Road Runners showed their support for the Great British Spring Clean by launching a litter-picking blitz on the Letchworth Greenway.

Seven members of the Letchworth-based club gathered an astonishing 22 sacks of rubbish and litter from a three-quarters of a mile stretch of the trail between Blackhorse Road and Knights Templar School.

NHRR President Richard Harbon, who organised the litter-picking team, said: “As North Herts Road Runners we enjoy running on the Greenway, so we decided to do our bit to keep it tidy. It was sad to see the sheer volume of rubbish and litter, but everyone got stuck into the task and I think we made a difference.”

The Great British Spring Clean is a nationwide campaign, run by Keep Britain Tidy, to encourage people to clean up their neighbourhoods. It runs from March 23 to April 22. North Herts District Council supported the NHRR team by lending litter-picking equipment and supplying refuse sacks.
