A LETCHWORTH GC resident who illegally dumped waste was ordered to pay a total of 615 on Monday for two offences of fly-tipping.

Kadriye Eser, 48, of Brandles Road, pleaded guilty to both offences at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court after dumping rubbish sacks in Baldock Road, Letchworth GC, on land near to a plastics recycling bank.

Eser apologised to the court and explained that she had been suffering from ill health and depression.

She was given credit for pleading guilty and fined 200 for each offence, ordered to pay 200 towards costs and an additional 15 for the compulsory victim surcharge, making a total of 615.

Cllr Bernard Lovewell, portfolio holder for housing and environmental health at North Herts District Council, said: “We have stepped up our efforts to combat fly-tipping throughout the district and, as this case shows, we will prosecute offenders.

“Dumping waste illegally is a significant problem. Not only does it spoil our towns and rural areas, but there is also a financial cost which the council tax payer has to bear.”

Cllr Lovewell added: “It is a criminal and selfish act which affects us all and I would urge anyone who sees or hears of any fly-tipping in North Herts to contact us immediately on 0800 328 6023. If you witness fly-tipping in progress call the police immediately on 999.”
