This weekend marks the start of a fortnight of varied events in Letchworth, as part of the town’s annual festival.

The Letchworth Festival has 100 events in store, with the aim of showcasing Letchworth life and the talented people it homes.

Kicking things off is an open day tomorrow at the Fenners Building next to The Wynd, while The Wynd Gallery will hold an exhibition of eco pop.

Letchworth Festival organiser Hilary Kemp said: “Letchworth Festival is an opportunity to find out about more about your town, to try out new sports and join new groups.

“You can come and enjoy the community spirit that makes Letchworth such a special place to live.

“I’m proud to be part of a such an enthusiastic group of volunteers – and to have so many talented musicians, artists, designers, performers and sports people involved.

“The festival is a great way to celebrate Letchworth life.”

The festival has something for everyone, including North Herts Road Runners’ Run Round the Garden on Sunday as well as open gardens for those who prefer to walk.

There will be a bear on Broadway on June 24 as the theatre hosts the musical Lily and Bear, with the chance to meet the cuddly creature after the show.

On June 21, Zeb Soanes of Radio 4 fame and acclaimed Letchworth illustrator James Mayhew will be launching their new book, Gaspard the Fox, at St Francis’ College.

There will be three events happening in the town on June 30 – labelled as a “community day with a kick”, community groups will be out in force with stands in the town alongside Letchworth Street Chilli Fiesta, which is back for a second year.

Meanwhile, Armed Forces Day celebrations will be taking place in Broadway Gardens, with displays and events scheduled throughout the day.

One of the last events will be Park Live on July 1 – a family music festival at Howard Park. This will see music, entertainment, food and drink in the park and will be followed with an after party at the Garden City Brewery.
