A group of suspects involved in a car chase in Letchworth last night evaded capture amid a subsequent search involving a police helicopter and dogs.

The chase began just after 10pm, when a blue Peugeot 307 failed to stop for police in Radburn Way, on the Jackmans estate.

Officers gave pursuit until the occupants of the car decamped on the estate and fled on foot.

There was then a police search, including a helicopter and police dogs – but nobody was arrested.

A force spokeswoman said this morning that enquiries are continuing. The Peugeot was recovered by police.
