WOULD the alternative vote system make “rather average politicians” work hard to keep voters’ support and deny MPs “jobs for life” by holding safe seats?
Or would the AV, where voters rank candidates rather than choose a single candidate, mean that some people’s votes count more than others?
Both sides of the argument will be discussed in a debate at David’s Bookshop, Letchworth GC, tomorrow (Tuesday).
Conrad Jarrett, a member of the Social Democratic Party between 1989 to 1991, will be arguing for voting yes to AV while Howard Burrell, a professor at the University of Hertfordshire and Stevenage councillor, will be making his case against changing from a first past the post system.
The debate starts at 7.30pm at the Eastcheap store and admission is free - call 01462 684 631 to reserve a space.
