Poignant memories of fallen comrades in war time by ex soldiers and the younger generation remembering with gratitude the ultimate sacrifices made by their forbearers in the name of freedom, that is what true life substance is about. Enough of the increasing political correctness nonsense that is sweeping our country at the moment - let's write and talk, not about airy-fairy stupid rules which is really getting people angry, but what really matters. The substance I refer to, on this occasion, is of course 11/11/11. At 11am on a Saturday for a change this year, ex soldier John Stoddard will lead the Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial. Of course, the British legion will be well represented. The following day sees Remembrance Sunday, with the parade and British Legion standards gathering in the rail station car-park at 10.30, marching to the War Memorial for 11am and then marching on to Letchworth Free Church for a service (11.15 to 11.30am), led by the Rev Jean Ennals. Everyone of any age is welcome on both days to join in the marching, commemoration and service. La Concha Wine Bar by the station will be kindly opening early on Remembrance Sunday to serve hot drinks for people going to the commemoration at the War Memorial. Any profits will go towards the Poppy Appeal Fund.
