Travellers pitched up in Letchworth have been told to leave by tomorrow or face court action.
The travellers, who set up camp at an Avenue One industrial site on Sunday, moved to the end of Works Road near where Letchworth meets Baldock on Monday evening.
And the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, which owns the land, has today instructed them to vacate the area by tomorrow.
The Heritage Foundation said in a statement: “We have served notice to the group which requires them to leave by tomorrow. If they fail to do so, we will refer the matter to the courts.”
A police spokeswoman told the Comet this morning that officers were continuing to ‘monitor the situation and work with the landowners’.
A North Herts District Council spokeswoman said that as the travellers are on private land, the matter falls outside the authority’s jurisdiction.
