THE recycling bank at Baldock Fire Station in Weston Way is being removed due to constant littering.

North Herts District Council is taking the action because people using this and other banks are still leaving their recyclable materials around the banks and not within them which makes the local environment look untidy and uncared for.

At the fire station, this was causing a hazard to the emergency service. As a result, the fire service reluctantly asked the council to remove the bank.

Cllr Lynda Needham, portfolio holder for waste and recycling at NHDC, commented: "It's a shame we are having to remove this bank as we want to make it as easy as possible for residents to access a recycling bank for their plastics, cartons and cans.

"Whilst the majority of residents use the banks correctly, a few unfortunately persist in dumping their bags of recycling near the banks where it degrades the look of the local environment."

The nearest alternative banks for cans, mixed plastics and cartons are Tapps Garden Centre or Tesco in Baldock.
