A PUB has cleared the air for 2006 and now offers customers a totally smoke-free environment in which to enjoy their meal.

The Hare and Hounds in Old Warden has chosen to introduce the ban early, ahead of an anticipated Government ban in 2007.

The pub, which concentrates on the food side of pubbing, hopes that the new smoke-free atmosphere will further improve the dining experience for customers.

Partner Jane Hasler said: "We are keen to provide the best environment possible for diners and drinkers alike.

"However, rather than waiting for the Government to confirm a smoking ban, we thought our customers should know where they stand now and so introduced a no smoking policy on January 1."

The decision has been met with a positive response.

Jane said: "Some of our regulars who smoke have particularly welcomed the decision as they say it will help their New Year resolution to quit smoking.
