MP Oliver Heald is to be given a knighthood, Prime Minister David Cameron has announced today on behalf of the Queen.
The North East Hertfordshire MP will receive the accolade in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list in recognition of his political service over the past 23 years.
In that time Mr Heald, who represents constituents in Letchworth and Baldock, has served as a minister in John Major’s government and as solicitor general under the current regime prior to last week’s cabinet reshuffle.
Reacting to the news, he said “I am honoured to receive this recognition on behalf of the people of North East Hertfordshire. I shall continue to work tirelessly in their interests.”
