TWO robbers, one armed with a knife, targeted a convenience store in broad daylight.

They went into Parmars Food and Wine in Hitchin and began to select items from the shelves.

One of them then went to the counter and threatened the shop assistant to empty the till of cash.

At the same time, the second man filled a bag with goods from the shelves. They then left the shop and made off along Redhill Road with cash and groceries.

Dc Kirsty Ding from the local burglary and robbery unit said: "This was a particularly insensitive attack which resulted in the shop assistant being left shaken. We would like to hear from anyone who may have details regarding the incident.

"Police are particularly keen to speak to a possible witness who was in the shop at the time of the incident who may be able to provide is with information. She was a white female with fair hair and was wearing a pink scarf.

"We have CCTV images of people who we would like to speak to in connection with the offence and are keen to speak to anyone who may recognise them."

The robbery happened at around 1pm on Thursday, December 7.

The suspect carrying the knife is described as a black man, about 6ft tall with a distinctive long, slim face. He was wearing a green jacket and a black hat and spoke with a local accent.

His accomplice is described as a black man of about 5ft 10in with a stocky build. He was wearing a blue puffa jacket, dark jeans and a dark woolly hat.

Two males who fit these descriptions were seen on the day of the incident in a small, black car - possibly a Volkswagen Golf or similar.
