The jury has retired to consider whether two Stevenage men are guilty of killing Peter Shickle by battering him to death with objects including a large flat screen TV.
Peter Shickle, 58, was found in a pool of blood at his flat in Silam Road, Stevenage, on November 6, 2016.
His TV had been ripped from the wall and the father-of-two had been battered with it.
John Jamieson, 36, of Wigram Way, Stevenage, and Graham King, also 36, of Harrow Court in the town, have previously denied murdering Mr Shickle.
Martin Mulgrew, prosecuting, told the court how the events leading up to Mr Shickle’s death started on October 28 when he was out drinking with Mr Jamieson’s mum Christine.
Mr Mulgrew argued that the defendant had found out about the fight and vowed to take revenge on Mr Shickle.
But giving evidence, Mr Jamieson said he only hit Mr Shickle with the TV because he came at him with a Stanley knife.
Mr King did not appear in the witness box and his defence lawyer, Abbas Lakha QC, claimed there was no evidence to suggest that when he went into Mr Shickle’s house that he had any intent to cause harm.
The jury will return to Luton Crown Court at 2pm tomorrow to continue its deliberations.
