RUNNERS of all ages and abilities are gearing up for a day of fundraising fun over the bank holiday - and there is still time to sign up.
This Bank Holiday Monday, adults and children, in teams and individually, will take part in the community fun run at Fairlands Valley Park in Stevenage.
The run follows a gentle 3km course around the park and will raise much-needed funds for Garden House Hospice in Letchworth GC.
Last year the team category was won by a group led by the then-mayor David Royall, but this year's mayoral entrants have more humble ambitions.
The mayor's team includes Stevenage MP Barbara Follett, plus Stevenage councillors and their family and friends.
Among them will be mayor designate Simon Speller and his granddaughter Ashleigh, who is just three years old.
Cllr Speller said: "We are determined to take part. If we are to win it will be a massive accident.
"The key word is 'fun' really."
Pat Henry, from the Stevenage Community Trust, which organises the event, said: "It's a great day out for the whole family.
"Last year was a roaring success with great weather and a huge turn out, and we're hoping to make this year's event even better."
After the individual and team runs, the day finishes off with a family mass jog around the course.
To enter this year's run ring the Stevenage Community Trust on 01438 773368, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.stevenagecommunitytrust.org
Alternatively, come along to the registration desk, next to Costello's café, before the first race at 2pm and sign up on the day. Entry fees are to be paid on the day.
