SIXTY jobs are to be created with a new £1.1 million restaurant on Stevenage Leisure Park.

Restaurant chain Outback Steakhouse is splashing out the money to convert the former Square/Mooch bar and nightclub.

Building work will start on January 23 and the restaurant will hopefully open in mid-May. When it is finished it will seat 240 people in the dining area and also feature a separate bar.

It will also be wheelchair accessible and have a specially adapted toilet for disabled people. Other features will include a children's menu and offer high chairs as well as baby changing facilities.

Phil Broad, managing director of Outback Steakhouse, said: "We are looking forward to opening in Stevenage and are confident the restaurant will be a good asset to the town's busy social scene.

"The leisure park is one of the busiest in the UK and our investment highlights our commitment to its continued success.
