Jewellery was stolen on Thursday after someone smashed through the rear patio doors of a house near Hitchin - and police have today appealed for witnesses.

The burglary, in Back Lane in Preston, happened between 12.15pm and 5.35pm, with several items of jewellery taken after a bedroom was ransacked.

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area between the times stated, or has any information that could assist the investigation, should call police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference number G1/17/392.
