ANGRY drivers were left in a jam on Tuesday afternoon after a bus got stuck in a crowded road.

The motorists were so incensed, and the traffic problems so bad, that the police were called out to try to resolve the incident in Ingleside Drive, Stevenage.

At about 2pm the number 15 bus had turned into the road which had been narrowed towards the end by vehicles which had been parked on either side.

When it got stuck other vehicles following the bus also came to a halt and this spilled out onto the nearby A602 roundabout, creating havoc and causing many drivers to leave their vehicles to find out what was going on.

A spokesman for Stevenage Borough Council said: "We have carried out widespread consultations with the people in that road and area about plans for yellow lines. We will go back to them with a final scheme in the spring of 2007.

"We have been aware of this problem and want to make sure buses, pedestrians and vehicles can travel safely in that area.
