A thief from Stevenage who persistently used other people’s contactless bank cards to make purchases has been jailed.
James Sullivan, of Grace Way, fraudulently used one woman’s card five times in Stevenage on April 9 – and did the same with another woman’s card on April 27.
The 35-year-old pleaded guilty to seven counts of fraud, as well as interfering with a Fiat in Stevenage on June 1, trying to steal items from a Renault in the town on the same day, and stealing clothing, aftershave and £550 cash in Stevenage during the previous night.
St Albans magistrates chaired by Linda Oatley jailed Sullivan for 16 weeks, noting his “blatant disregard for previous court orders”, persistent offending and “failure to respond to previous non-custodial sentences”.
In addition to the prison term, Sullivan must pay £671.87 in compensation and £115 surcharge.
