One member of a six-strong gang who were jailed last week for dealing cocaine was a former world champion boxer, police have confirmed.
Graham Earl, who lived in Luton but ran House for Champions at Wayne Armstrong Boxing Gym in Hitchin, was sentenced to seven years in prison after officers uncovered a drugs rings operating mainly from Hitchin and Letchworth.
The 36-year-old from Talbot Way – who fought two-time world boxing champion Amir Khan in 2007 having won the WBU lightweight title the year before – was jailed for conspiracy to supply cocaine.
The drugs ring was led by Christopher ‘Mouse’ Collins from Hitchin, who admitted at a hearing last year to conspiracy to supply cocaine and cannabis, as well as a proceeds of crime act offence.
The 29-year-old of Coopers Yard in Paynes Park was jailed for 12 years.
Another of Collins’ accomplices was also a boxer – Amadur Rahman – who has previously fought at the Hitchin gym in Station Approach as well as in Stevenage.
The 26-year-old, of Jessop Road in Stevenage, was given a four-year prison term.
