A MAN has been sentenced to four years and nine months jail for unlawful wounding after stabbing another man.

James Allen, 28, from Tates Way, Stevenage, was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court on Monday after pleading guilty to an attack at a house in Welwyn Garden City in the early hours of November 20 last year.

Allen caused serious injuries to a 24-year-old man from Biggleswade by stabbing him in the stomach with a kitchen knife. The victim needed surgery to repair the damage.

Dc Matt Smith of the major crime task force, who led the investigation, said: "This is a positive result and demonstrates the seriousness in which both the courts and the police treat knife-related crime.

"The Constabulary will always take a robust stance when investigating crimes involving weapons of this nature and I hope this sentence will act as a strong deterrent.
