An online fundraiser has been launched to support the Letchworth families whose homes were damaged by last night’s fire.

The massive blaze in Newells, on the Jackmans estate, was successfully tackled by firefighters with everybody out safely – but three families have been left with major damage to their homes.

Friend Jenna Lowery launched the page today, noting that community-minded Jackmans is known for pulling together in such times of need.

Jenna wrote on the crowdfunding page: “Three families have had significant damage done to their homes and they need our support.

“Jackmans is known for pulling together and achieving outstanding generosity when it’s needed. One family in particular have been through so much already – to have to go through this ordeal as well is heartbreaking to watch as a friend.

“We don’t expect large amounts of money, as we know times are hard for everyone, but every little helps.

“We are also looking for donations of clothes for a four-year-old little girl, toys, home accessories, furniture – anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated. Thank you everyone!”

Annie Pye, whose father lives in one of the houses affected, posted in response: “We will all pull together! And we will get back to how it was.

“My love goes to my dad and Bonnie and the kids. Thank you so much for making the page and your kindness – I know my dad is extremely thankful.”

Numerous donations and offers of help have already been received, with Jenna posting an update this afternoon to thank everyone for their generosity.

A community fundraiser is set to take place at Jackmans Community Centre from 12 noon to 5pm on Friday, July 28.
