Stevenage ace Jack King says he and his team-mates fear nobody in Sky Bet League Two as they prepare to welcome Portsmouth to the Lamex Stadium on Saturday.

Boro will be looking to bounce back from Tuesday night’s 1-0 loss at Blackpool against third-placed Pompey.

Having won 2-1 away in Hampshire in November, Stevenage, who sit just three places and seven points below their next opponents, will be looking to do the league double over the former Premier League club.

King told the Comet: “We know what to expect from them.

“They are a team full of players pretty much from a higher division.

“I’ve played against some of their players numerous times in the last few years in League One and they possess a lot of quality.

“We know on their day they are a really good team, but we don’t fear anyone in this division. We have shown that, we have gone away to Fratton Park and got a result there and we’ll be looking to do the same on Saturday.”

The 31-year-old, who has been playing in central defence alongside Luke Wilkinson of late, has been one of Stevenage’s standout performers this season.

Having initially joined the club on loan from League One Scunthorpe United at the start of the term, manager Darren Sarll signed him permanently in January.

Of that decision, he said: “It took a while to get the deal through in January, it wasn’t ideal to miss two or three games like I did and going back to Scunthorpe, but I’m pleased it finally got done and I’ve enjoyed my football since.

“I really enjoyed it [the loan spell], the fans seemed to take to me, the lads are superb, the gaffer has been really good to me, just the whole feel of it really.

“It felt right when I first came, our form was indifferent, we had the bad run at home and the good run of results away, but it was a really enjoyable time and it was pleasing to get the football under my belt that I did and that was a big factor in the reason why I wanted to come back and sign.”

Prior to the midweek loss at Broomfield Road, King was a regular in the side that enjoyed a nine-match unbeaten streak.

“It [the unbeaten streak] has been nice, we had the unfortunate result on Tuesday night that we are looking to put right on Saturday, but previous to that it’s been a really good run of results that has seen us shoot up the league somewhat,” he added.

“We are right in the play-off now so hopefully that can continue and we are looking to push up even further.

“When I signed for the club my ambition was always to get back up into League One and that’s still there.”
