THIS is an artist's impression of the hotel which could replace a derelict dangerous building.
Bluebird Holdings, owner of Manulife in St George's Way, Stevenage, has released this artist's impression of how the building will look if it gets planning permission from Stevenage Borough Council.
The company already have outline permission but is yet to get the go-ahead after submitting more detailed plans.
The council will make a decision by June 16 although it has £3.5million to buy and demolish it.
Bluebird Holdings say it wants to start work on converting the building into a luxury four star 140 room Holiday Inn Hotel.
Internal conversion works at the site commenced in January of this year but Bluebird agreed to halt works at the request of the council until a detailed scheme for alterations to the exterior of the building had been agreed.
Peter Lawson of national planning and urban design consultancy Turley Associates, acting on behalf of Bluebird Holdings, said: "The external elevations of the building will be completely re-clad in a variety of quality materials to lend the Holiday Inn a stylish 21st century appearance compatible with the building's new use as a four star hotel.
"Once complete the building will in fact appear completely brand new both inside and out and virtually unrecognisable."
He said the ground floor level of the hotel will house the principle guest facilities including main reception, lounge, bar, restaurant and health and fitness facilities.
The first floor will house the conference and meeting rooms and the bedrooms occupy the upper floors of the building which are "less susceptible to noise disturbance from passing traffic."
