On February 11, St Francis of Assisi Church had one of its most important events of the year, the second annual Mass for the sick and housebound of the Parish. Eleven years ago, Pope John Paul II made the date of February 11 an annual day of prayer for the sick of this world. On that day 148 years ago the Mother of God appeared in the French village of Lourdes to a peasant girl. The Shefford St Vincent de Paul Society wanted to mark this day at St Francis Church, but they were afraid because it being in deep winter. The church was almost full with this being the best attendance ever. Canon Bennie Noonan was pleased with the food laid on after the Mass and commented that down the years, the food has always been a highlight for the sick.
