A TEENAGER'S dream of becoming a ski instructor has been dashed after she was hit by a car.

Zoe Reynolds, 16, shattered her shin and knee during an incident on Fairview Road in Stevenage.

She has blamed commuters who park both sides of the road for the accident because it meant she had to ride in the middle of the road.

Zoe said: "If there hadn't been parked cars on both sides of the road then I wouldn't have been hit."

She was travelling to school on her moped, which she has been riding for 11 months, when the incident happened.

Zoe was overtaking parked cars as was a car travelling in the opposite direction.

She claims the driver went faster and as she tried to get out of the car's way she skidded and was hit.

The car did not stop and police are investigating the incident which happened on Wednesday, February 1.

Zoe has been told she will not be able to walk properly for six months and it is "highly unlikely" that she will ever be able to ski again - a sport she loves.

She has also missed her school's skiing trip which she was looking forward to.

She said: "I love skiing. From the first time I tried it I fell in love with it. I really wanted to be a ski instructor. The parking problems in Fairview Road need to be sorted out now before someone else is hurt."

Parking in Fairview Road has been a problem for months now.

One resident told The Comet: "Fairview Road is used as a rat run to avoid the local traffic. There have been a number of accidents at the junction of Fairview Road and Chequers Bridge Road due to commuter car parking near the junction, heavy traffic and unnecessary speeding.

"Official records of the incidents are not kept unless there have been fatalities and fortunately there have been none.
