A BREAST cancer sufferer used her 40th birthday to raise more than £1,000 for charity.
Glenda White, from Elbow Lane, Stevenage, held a fancy dress party to mark the milestone, with the theme 'dare to be seen in pink and green.'
Friends and family were eager to get in on the act, with Glenda's partner Tony even dressing in pink drag.
Together they enjoyed an afternoon of games including pass the parcel, lucky dip, dodgy ducks and face painting, followed by an evening party.
The event raised over £1,200, with donations still arriving, and the money will be split between Macmillan Cancer Support and Breast Cancer Care.
Glenda was diagnosed with primary breast cancer six years ago, and with secondary breast cancer in her bones in February 2005.
She said: "I am determined not to let cancer get the better of me. I research a lot and I have found an inner strength to guide me in living my life with secondary cancer.
"Secondary cancer is a life limiting diagnosis but not always terminal. Yes it's a progressive disease and it has considerably affected my day-to-day mobility.
"I want to be part of promoting awareness of this awful disease and I believe with the right care, support and treatment in place, individuals can live a balanced life with a secondary cancer diagnosis."
If anyone with a similar diagnosis would like to contact Glenda, ring The Comet on 01438 866200 and we will pass your details on to her.
Glenda would like to thank the friends and family who took part in her 40th celebrations and the fundraising, donated auction and raffle prizes, helped arrange the party and gave donations.
