Stevenage’s brand new Toys R Us store will be opening for business next week – and the search is on for the lucky youngster who will do the honours at the official ceremony.
Toys R Us has been one of the big names on the town’s Roaring Meg retail park for years, but the new development – part of major changes which will also see a Debenhams department store coming to the town – mean a new location and a new look.
The store opens for business next Thursday, January 28, and the official opening ceremony will take place on the morning of Saturday, January 30.
One lucky child – aged from three to eight years old – will win the chance to be a special VIP guest of the Toys ‘R’ Us team and open the store at Saturday’s celebrations, and also claim a £250 gift card to spend in the new store.
Two runners-up will receive a £50 Toys R Us gift card.
The new store will be packed with an outstanding range of toys including all the top names of the moment including Star Wars, Lego, Barbie, Disney Princess, Thomas the Tank Engine and Peppa Pig, as well as high-spec bikes and all the latest babycare items.
Also part of the offer is the Universe of Imagination area bursting with educational learning toys to make learning fun, and an entire section dedicated all the latest video games consoles and software.
If you’d like your child to be in the running for the big prize, here’s what you have to do:

You’ll also need to supply the name and age of your child and a daytime telephone number.
Entries must be received by 11.59pm on Tuesday, January 26.
Winners will be notifed by telephone on Wednesday, January 27. They must be able to travel to and attend the grand opening of Toys ‘R’ Us Stevenage at 9am on Saturday, January 30.
The winning child must be aged between three and eight and in the event that the winner cannot be contacted by 10am on Thursday, January 28, another winner will be drawn.
