Apprenticeships transform the lives of young people and promote business growth. Apprenticeships help businesses boost productivity, staff retention and business performance.
If you’re a business interested in apprenticeships we’d love to talk to you.
We support businesses of all sizes to engage with and invest in emerging talent. We start by understanding your ambitions, plans and challenges and then everything we do is about helping your business to improve and grow.
Local MPs Sir Oliver Heald QC, Peter Lilley and Stephen McPartland and Hart Learning & Development have joined forces to encourage businesses in Stevenage and North Hertfordshire to love apprenticeships.

Why do we love apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are equally powerful for businesses, young people and their families. They are proven to help businesses attract, train and retain the talented young people who then power that business into the future. They are also a powerful way for young people to build careers in their chosen occupation, realise their full potential and transform their life chances.
“I always encourage businesses of all sizes, across Stevenage to support the apprenticeships campaign and am delighted to back this new campaign.” (Stephen McPartland, MP for Stevenage)
“I’ve long been an advocate of apprenticeships. The combination of real work and on and off the job training that they include helps young people to quickly become invaluable, committed employees.
I would encourage all businesses in Hitchin and Harpenden to think about how they can support the love apprenticeships campaign by creating opportunities for young people in their business.” (Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden)
“The apprenticeship model has proved to be effective in a huge range of sectors and occupational areas – far beyond the traditional view of apprenticeships as something for the technical and craft occupations. They’re as powerful for accounting and management as they are for engineering and carpentry.
I’d encourage businesses across my constituency to support the love apprenticeships campaign by thinking with us about how apprenticeships might fit into their forward plans.” (Sir Oliver Heald QC, MP for North East Hertfordshire)
We’re not alone, hundreds of businesses in North Hertfordshire already love apprenticeships. They have been telling us why:
“Grays loves Apprenticeships because they work” (Jason Moore, Managing Director, Grays Dry Lining)
“Apprenticeships have become key to developing talent. They help develop individuals both professionally and personally” (LV)
“Apprenticeships provide our Trust with a competent and flexible workforce that delivers high quality safe care to our patients.” (East and North Hertfordshire NHC Trust)
“Apprentices get knowledge and practical skills whilst working in the environment. It’s a combination you can’t beat.” (Jo Jones, Springers Breakfast, afterschool and holiday club)

What are apprenticeships?
An apprenticeship is a work-based training programme which includes a combination of on and off the job training. Apprenticeships:
? Are real jobs. Apprentices must be employed for at least 30 hours per week.
? Include formal and informal, on and off the job training.
? Contain nationally recognised qualifications relevant to the occupation.
? Typically last for 1 – 2 years, but can last longer in more technical areas, and/or at higher levels.
