Police got an unexpected response today when a man they were looking for in an online missing person appeal started replying to it himself with comments on social media.

Officers this morning appealed for people’s help tracing 30-year-old Daniel Scott, from Stevenage – saying he had been reported missing on Thursday and last seen at about 5.45pm on Friday, June 9, in the town.

The appeal added that anyone who saw him should not approach him, but contact police immediately.

But when the Comet posted a story about the police appeal to trace Mr Scott online earlier today, the man himself posted comments on our Facebook site – denying that he was missing.

A spokeswoman told the Comet in response: “Daniel Scott is a missing person and is being dealt with by police as such.

“Even though he is posting on Facebook, until officers locate him and speak to him face to face – so that they can determine that he is safe and well – he will continue to be a missing person.”
