POLICE are appealing to the public to help them track down a group of men responsible for stealing a car and crashing it through a playing field fence.

The car, a Vauxhall Corsa, had been parked close to the playing field in Alnwick Close, Sandy, in the early hours of Sunday, July 30.

Police say the offenders smashed a window in the vehicle and pulled apart the steering column.

They then drove the car a short distance and crashed through a small wooden fence into the playing field at around 1.30am.

After crashing the Corsa the offenders left the scene taking the car stereo with them.

The officer in charge of the investigation, Dc Suzanne Chappel, this week urged anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident or has any information relating to the crime to come forward and speak to her in confidence.

Anyone with information can contact Dc Chappel at Greyfriars Police Station, Bedford, on 01234 275354, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

n Two men have already been arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
