A CAMPAIGNER who helps the elderly will be taking to the streets over the next two Saturdays.
Ken Lynch, chairman of the Biggleswade and District Pensioners' Association, will be setting up a stall in Sandy Market Place this Saturday distributing a booklet about all the benefits pensioners can claim.
Mr Lynch will highlight how £2 billion in benefit payments goes unclaimed every year by pensioners.
"A lot of elderly people are living on the breadline in this area and need help," said Mr Lynch, a Sandy resident.
"This book gives them all the information they want so they can apply for benefits that will boost their income.
"Council tax is going up, heating and lighting is going to cost more. It is a never ending upward spiral of bills for the elderly which they are finding very hard to pay.
"But what many pensioners don't realise is there are many benefits they can claim to make life that bit easier.
"There is a large elderly population in and around Biggleswade, Sandy and Potton and these booklets will help people get what they rightfully deserve.
"I felt I couldn't let the elderly suffer when something simple like this can be done to help them.
"The booklets have been printed in large writing to make them easy to read and also easy to understand.
"If anyone has any problems we will hopefully be able to answer their questions."
Mr Lynch has been supplied with 800 of the booklets and he will be in the Sandy Market Square outside Budgens from 10am. The following week he will be in Biggleswade and will be setting up his stall outside Woolworths in the Market Place.
