A FORMER care home could be turned into apartments if a proposal is backed by a planning committee.

Charterwood Homes Ltd want to convert and partially demolish a 40-bed care home in Drakes Drive, Stevenage, under plans to build 24 one and two-bedroom apartments in its place.

The care home, which was operated by Hertfordshire County Council, is currently unoccupied after residents were moved to a new 90-bed home in Jubilee Court last year.

Some nearby residents have raised objections to the housing development, citing concerns such as increased noise and the loss of trees.

The application will be discussed by members of Stevenage Borough Council’s planning committee on Tuesday, with a recommendation to approve the plans.
