YOUNG people have been treated to expert basketball tuition to mark the opening of a new court.

The court in Symonds Green, Stevenage, was created thanks to funding from the Home Office and the borough council's area committee.

It is already encouraging young people in the area to get active and to develop skills in a new sport.

Players from the town's Mentoring Basketball Academy (MBA) coached 20 young people and received some very positive feedback from them.

Executive councillor for community and culture Sue Myson said: "In a recent survey, 54 per cent of Stevenage residents told us that facilities for young people needed improving.

"The council has a number of ongoing projects in this area, and it is good when we can tailor these to the demands and concerns of the community in projects such as this.
