AFTER fighting off a zombie invasion and uncovering a criminal conspiracy – Hollywood actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are set to shoot scenes in Letchworth GC for their final film in the trilogy.

The comedy duo will reunite for The World’s End on the back of the success of the zombie-infested Shaun of the Dead and cop spoof Hot Fuzz, with filming due to start for the third instalment in September.

Despite its lack of pubs, the film crew is expected to descend on Letchworth GC during the autumn for a movie which centres on five childhood friends who reunite 20 years after an epic pub crawl and decide it’s time they tried to repeat the feat.

Sources have told the Comet that town centre locations such as the Broadway Hotel, The Arena Tavern and La Concha Wine Bar and Tapas could feature in the film, which will be released by Universal Pictures in 2013.

Production companies Working Title and Big Talk have already been in discussion with North Herts District Council (NHDC) about filming in the town and Letchworth GC councillor Lynda Needham said she is excited about the prospect.

“Letchworth is one of the locations being considered for some scenes to be filmed later this year for The World’s End, and a number of sites in the town are being looked at,” said Cllr Needham, leader of NHDC.

“Both North Herts District Council and Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation have been contacted and are very keen to assist those working on the film where we can. It’s an exciting opportunity for the town, and for people living in the area.

“We’ll be meeting with other relevant organisations to discuss some of the details of the filming schedule once it is known, and we look forward to offering a warm welcome to those working on the film in our town later this year.”

Mr Pegg will again team up with writing partner Edgar Wright for The World’s End, with the latter taking on the role of director.

The filming is set to be right on Mr Pegg’s doorstep, having recently moved from London to a Hertfordshire village.

Although the 42-year-old has not revealed where in the county he now lives, he has admitted he chose the area over Los Angeles in the USA.

Speaking to the Comet’s sister magazine Hertfordshire Life, Mr Pegg said: “As much as I like the atmosphere and the buzz (of LA), there is still no place like home and I’m always pleased to be back in the UK.

“Hertfordshire is about as different as you can get to LA, and I love the fact I’ve got both things in my life.”

After a number of Hollywood blockbusters, Mr Pegg also confirmed he would spending the summer in Hertfordshire with his family.
