HITCHHIKING to Prague doesn't seem the safest pastime but it is all for a good cause.

Rob Girvan, 20, from Stevenage, is preparing to take up the challenge in April from the University of Cardiff, where he studies, to the capital of the Czech Republic.

Rob, who is currently studying law and politics, is one of 300 people taking part and he needs to raise £500 which will go to schools in Ghana, Uganda and South Africa.

Because of the possible dangers Rob will have to tell organisers where he is every four hours.

He said: "My mum is a little concerned about getting into strangers' cars but she knows it is all for a really good cause."

The former student at Nobel School said: "The funds raised through sponsorship will go towards supplying the most basic of classroom supplies such as chairs, tables and books right through to providing free school places for children who could otherwise not afford education and additional training for teachers."

He has already had a generous donation from MP Barbara Follett but is still looking for sponsors.

If you would like to sponsor Rob, call 01438 239971 or 07746 320141.
