Wondering why there is a riot of colour in Hitchin town centre? The answer’s bloomin’ obvious if you know who to ask!

Planters, tubs and flowerboxes have all appeared, brightening up Hermitage Road, High Street and Market Place as part of an £18,000 investment funded by Hitchin Initiative and Hitchin BID.

Town centre manager Keith Hoskins, pictured above in a tie that echoes the impressive summertime display, said: “We decided to do something different.

“It’s brought a flash of colour to the town – they’ll be there until September. I was going to say we can start watering them – but given the rain we’ve had we probably don’t need to just yet!

“The encouragement of Hitchin councillors is incredibly positive. I’m just sorry funding constraints mean they can’t contribute to our projects financially.”
