15-year-old Summer Parris impressed a panel of top industry judges, being selected for the final from over 10,000 people who entered the TeenStar nationwide singing competition.

The live grand final will take place on Saturday, July 29, with Summer and her fellow finalists performing in front of hundreds of audience members and a panel of professional judges.

Summer, of The Highfield School in Letchworth, has been performing from a young age and has been a member of Emil Dale School of Performing Arts for a number of years, gaining a scholarship to start full-time with them in September.

Summer said: “I didn’t know what to expect at all. It’s the first time I have entered a competition like this.”

Summer adds freestyle lyrics to music from the genre, and wants to continue this in the future.

She lists her influences as British singer songwriter Estelle and Sade, who achieved huge success with her 1984 hit Smooth Operator and would love to replicate their sound.

The winner of the grand final will receive the prize of producing an album in one of the UK’s finest recording studios alongside a top producer, a fully produced music video of one of their singles, and an extensive publicity package.

Summer will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of previous winners, with the chance of winning the prize that would truly kick-start the talented teenager’s music career.

Summer adds: “I am over the moon to have made it to the finals. I have had amazing support so far from my family and friends who have come to every stage of the auditions.”
