An up-and-coming musician from Hitchin has had his latest song chosen as BBC Radio 1’s Track of the Day.

James Bay, who grew up in the town, had his latest track Hold Back The River played by DJ Nick Grimshaw this morning – with the song set to be repeated in all of the daytime shows.

Posting on Twitter, the singer-songwriter said: “Nice one @grimmers! Thanks for playing Hold Back The River man x #HoldBackTheRiverR1.”

The national radio shows’s @R1Breakfast account tweeted: “Shout to everyone from Hitchin.”

It is the second time a Radio 1 DJ has taken a liking to one of James’ songs, after previous single Let It Go was played by Fearne Cotton on her lunchtime show.
