The biggest free festival in our area has been hailed as a huge success after taking place in Hitchin this weekend.
The Walsworth Festival took place on Walsworth Common yesterday, delighting the large number of people – both young and old – who attended.
The arena hosted the Companie of the Silver Arrow – with the motto ‘Semper Paratus’ – the Herts-based living history group which specialises in life in the 15th century and who say they are a refuge from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Festival-goers also enjoyed performances from the Purwell Panthers Cheerleading Group, Vickie Lesnick’s School of Ballet from Hitchin, and the Letchworth Morris Men.
The long-running festival also packed a punch with Punch and Judy to delight young and old alike. There will also be an appearance from the talented Hitchin Youth Brass Band, the Scout Train, and Green Dragon Bowmen archers.
During its four decades in existence the festival has helped raise thousands of pounds for charity. It is organised by volunteers and assisted by many charities, and always has a good combination of old family fun and modern attractions.
The event was opened by councillor Alan Millard, chairman of North Herts District Council, who said. “I must congratulate the organisers and all volunteers who manned the car park and stalls for a wonderful day, it was well supported by the public and the weather was lovely.”
