THE headliners for this year’s Rhythms of the World festival have been revealed.

Reggae legend Junior Marvin and Mojo magazine award winners Juju will headline at the festival, which will be held on July 14 and 15.

Juju will headline on the festival’s main stage on Saturday. Guitarist Justin Adams has worked and produced for the likes of Robert Plant, Brian Eno, Sinead O’Connor and world music stars Tinariwen. Junior Marvin will take to the stage on Sunday, providing the festival finale.

Other highlights in the line-up include Bhangra’s international ambassador Jassi Sidhu, who will take time out from a busy schedule to please the crowds. Mercury Prize winner Speech Debelle will perform, as will Molotov Jukebox, featuring Natalia Tena of Harry Potter fame.

An army of local bands are also joining in the fun, with The October Game, CC Smugglers and My Passion all in the line-up.

Punk legends The Damned, Olympics 2012 opening ceremony performers The Boxettes and Tom Hingley from 90s Manchester band Inspiral Carpets will also ensure the festival puts Hitchin firmly on the map.

“We are absolutely ecstatic to be able to name such high profile acts amongst our line up for the festival weekend,” said performance director Steve Smither.

“There is definitely something for everyone amongst the many performers taking to the stage over the weekend. What we’ve concocted is a selection of artists who can really engage the audience and if you perhaps don’t know them at the start, you’ll want to know more by the end.”
