A Hitchin dance academy is set to open its doors to older members of the community next week – with a full Christmas dinner, musical numbers and more.

The Emil Dale Academy, in Wilbury Way, will hold its Spare Chair event on Friday from 1pm to 4pm. Guests will receive Christmas dinner, dessert and drinks while enjoying entertainment from the academy students.

The cause is close to heart of academy founder Emil, whose mother lives on her own and without him would be completely alone.

Last year’s Spare Chair event was a rousing success, with companies and individuals donating food, equipment, decorations and their time – and this year looks like it should go well too.

The academy’s Sarah Moore told the Comet: “Last year it was so heartwarming to meet and chat to so many elderly people in our community. They were all so lovely and had amazing stories to tell.

“When we gave Christmas gifts last year, one lady said it was the only present she would receive that Christmas – it was uplifting to know a small gesture made a big difference, and we are excited to do the same again this year.”

She added: “If you know someone who is elderly and living alone, knock on their door – tell them about the Emil Dale Academy project and get them to the building. Don’t leave it to someone else.

“Alongside the academy, we really can make a big difference if we work together. It’s time to reach out.”

Community donations for this year’s event include a 7ft Christmas tree donated by Wyevale Garden Centre’s David Bolton and Corinne Scott.

Kenhurst Foods have given eight turkeys, Andrew Voisey is providing all the vegetables, and MHC Events is giving tables and chairs.

Chartridge Venues is giving crockery, and Emil’s parents and friends are bringing a present for every guest.

To reserve a place, email info@emildale.co.uk with ‘Christmas dinner’ as the subject, sending details of the attendee’s name, phone number, address and wheelchair requirements. You can also call on 01462 677808.
